Thanks to this research, mirSense, established at the beginning of 2015, has a &#8220;unique&#8221; approach, using only microelectronic solutions without any moving mechanical or optic components, resulting in compact and robust devices. mirSense's expertise is the development a unique silicon platform that enables mid-range photonics ICs. We use it for combining lasers and providing advanced MIR sensing solutions. Our philosophy is to be as close to the applications as possible. Our target customers are equipment manufacturers needing sensing systems such as for gas, chemical or medical sensing. Examples of mirSense products are : a multigas detecting laser module with pulsed or CW operation at room temperature, with 10 mW mean power, which offers a 100 cm-1 tuning range and a single gas laser, which can deliver more than 100 mW. We have already delivered hundreds of these lasers to customers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Within the consortium, mirSense will realise dual wavelength MIR QCLs combined with a MOPA geometry. This will permit high power MIR QCLs to pump new MIR TMDs for efficient FIR generation. mirSense will further evaluate the new sources in terms of performances and their integration in compact spectrometers.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The School of Physics has a world leading reputation in the theory, fabrication, characterisation and study of metallic thin films and magnetic materials. Both the schools form part of the Bragg Centre, the flagship materials research centre of the University of Leeds. &lt;p&gt;Within the consortium, ULEEDS will provide state-of-the-art material growth by molecular beam epitaxy, of both high power GaAs-AlGaAs THz QCLs for pumping 2D materials and high quality Bi2Se3 and (BiSb)2Te3 films. TI devices, QCL devices and integrated QCL-TI devices will be fabricated in the ULEEDS nanotechnology cleanroom. Linear and non-linear THz spectroscopy of TI materials will be carried out in the ULEEDS THz laboratory.&lt;/p&gt;

The EPFL School of Engineering (STI) consists of more than 50 laboratories organized within 5 institutes at the intersection of mechanics, electrical engineering, micro-technology, and materials science. The research projects conducted in the STI often lead to tangible applications in areas as diverse as biomedical sciences ; energy technology ; the treatment and transmission of information ; microelectronics and micro-systems ; novel materials ; robotics and other mechanical systems. A key resource of EPFL is the CMI &#8211; a state of the art 100-mm user nanofabrication facility which enables material growth, advanced etching and nanofabrication.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;UNIBI was founded in 1969 with an explicit research assignment and a mission to provide high-quality research-oriented teaching. With 25,000 students, it now comprises 13 faculties covering a wide range of subjects in the arts and humanities, natural sciences, and technology. In addition, a medical faculty is currently in the process of being established.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;UNIBI regards itself as a strong research university, ranked in the top 25 percent of the national competitive field. Its research profile is based on four strategic, thematic research priorities, which are linked by three cross-cutting topics. All research priorities are interdisciplinary and involve various faculties and central scientific institutions. Cutting-edge interdisciplinary research is carried out on the highest international level, in particular within the framework of systematically selected third-party funded projects. The strategic research priorities focus on innovative basic research. They provide important focal points for possible transfers of academic research into industrial and societal applications, in line with UNIBI's official motto &#8220;Transcending Boundaries&#8221;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Within the consortium, as well as coordinating the project, the UNIBI group will provide :&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1) THz spectroscopy in many different modalities (standard THz TDS in the range 0.1 - 4.5 THz, ultrabroadband spectroscopy using THz air-photonics in the range 1 - 30 THz, nonlinear THz spectroscopy with THz fields up to at least 300 kV/cm, optical pump - THz probe, THz pump - optical probe, THz pump - THz probe) in order to understand the ground state conductivity, carrier dynamics, and nonlinear response of active materials used within the project, as well as the structures based thereon.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2) Modelling of nonlinear response of Dirac materials using the home-developed thermodynamic model, which was successfully employed to understand and describe nonlinear conductivity, saturable absorption, and HHG in graphene.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3) Feedback to other members of the consortium regarding material, structure, and device optimization.&lt;/p&gt;
